While many only know him of his prominence in the local motoring industry as the founder of Prem Roy Motoring, Roy actually started his career in banking. He spent 7 years across various banks setting sales records wherever he went.
Seeing his friends and family experience negative sales, paying high rates of interest on their mortgages because they were unaware that it could be refinanced made Roy realise that many were wilfully ignorant on how housing loans work.
“Singaporeans will go to at least 3 different retailers to compare the specifications, price and freebies offered on a Television or fridge before making a purchase. That much thought goes into a small ticket item. However, when it comes to the biggest financial decision of their lives, they simply leave it to their property agent or take a HDB loan. Wanting to make a difference, I decided to embark on this journey to help people save money.”

After achieving financial independence via value investing, Ravi left the Armed Forces after more than a decade of service.
During a work mandated workshop in 2013, the external speaker shared his educational journey and value investing philosophy. This inspired him to pursue a formal education in finance and to invest rationally instead of speculating in the markets.
Ravi also founded a social enterprise in partnership with raiSE Singapore to provide employment opportunities to underprivileged Singaporeans such as single mothers, ex-offenders and the visually challenged.
